HIPAA Employer Overview

Although employers are not "covered entities" under the Administrative Simplification Rules every employer that offers health benefits or health services to its employees are affected by the HIPAA Compliance Rules for employers and / or health plans. This is because the HIPAA Regulations directly regulates most employer group health plans and certain health care providers (which may include some employers' on-site providers).

Note: HIPAA Stands for Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act. It is commonly misspelled as HIPPA or HIPA.
